Our Services

Following a concussion, a multi-disciplinary team approach is best for providing comprehensive care. This team may include a medical doctor, physical therapist, a neuro-optometrist, speech therapist (also sometimes referred to as a cognitive therapist), psychologist, athletic trainer, and others. See below to read about the services we currently offer at Colorado Concussion Clinic.

Concussion Clearance & Return to sport Evaluations

Ready to return to sport? Our office will get you in in a timely fashion to complete a comprehensive return to sport protocol to ensure you are safe to return to play.

concussion evaluation & clinical care coordination

Our licensed medical practitioners oversee your medical care by coordinating with your care team, conducting a concussion evaluation, and by treating your symptoms. They often provide referrals to other practitioners within or outside of our clinic, depending on your needs. Diagnostic tests including X-rays, MRIs, blood tests, etc. may also be ordered, depending on your symptoms and physical exam findings.

Physical Therapy, specialty in vestibular therapy

Our licensed physical therapist completes a thorough evaluation to assess the vestibular system, visual system, static and dynamic balance, cervical spine and exercise tolerance. Treatment will address vertigo, dizziness, nausea, balance deficits, visual issues, neck pain and headaches. Manual therapy and dry needling may be incorporated into your plan of care. Your exercise tolerance may be assessed to help design an individualized program for safe return to exercise and other strenuous activities of daily living.

speech language pathology, specialty in cognitive therapy

Our team of licensed speech language pathologists specialize in providing cognitive therapy. They administer cognitive-linguistic testing and conduct a clinical interview to better understand functional challenges. Treatment typically focuses on difficulties in the areas of memory, attention and concentration, language (e.g., word retrieval), social communication (e.g., staying on topic, perspective taking, etc.), and executive function skills (e.g., time management, organization, monitoring performance, breaking down tasks, etc.).

Neuro-optometry

Our licensed neuro-optometrist specializes in treating individuals who are experiencing visual symptoms and dysfunctions after a brain injury. These visual symptoms may include difficulty reading, double vision, blurry vision, difficulty focusing the eyes, or visual motion sensitivity. A comprehensive evaluation is completed to assess eye tracking, eye focusing, how the two eyes work together, glasses prescription, and ocular health. Individualized treatment recommendations will be provided and may include prescription glasses, neuro-optometric visual therapy, and/or speciality lenses including tints and prisms.

MENTAL HEALTH THERAPY

Our licensed clinical mental health therapist provides therapy for individuals experiencing a variety of mental health conditions, typically that have resulted from an accident causing a concussion. Conditions treated include anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, phobias, grief and loss related to changes in lifestyle from injury/accident, and chronic pain related to injury/accident.
